Sonic Is Coming to OK K.O.! – Everything You Need to Know and Easter Eggs

While San Diego Comic Con (SDCC) brought a fair share of cartoon news, none of the news comes close to being as surprising as this. You read the title right; the Cartoon Network hit series OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes will be receiving a crossover with none other than Sonic the Hedgehog. Well, him and his classic side-kick Tails of course.

The episode titled “Let’s Meet Sonic” will premiere on Cartoon Network on August 4th at 4:45 PM (in EST and PT). If you miss the episode, it can be streamed from the offical Cartoon Network app. The run time will be the standard fifteen minutes most OK K.O. episodes are.

Cartoon Network has also provided an offical summary for the episode: “When world class hero SONIC THE HEDGEHOG visits the plaza, he teams up with KO to save the day.” Along with the announcement came a teaser trailer, which you can watch here. No further plot details or footage have been provided, although the episode is only two weeks away.

For those who are unaware of or don’t closely follow the show, here is a summary provided by Cartoon Network before we get into Easter eggs: “OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes follows K.O., an endlessly optimistic kid attempting to be the greatest hero he can be in a video game inspired world set in Lakewood Plaza Turbo. Created by Ian Jones-Quartey and produced by Cartoon Network Studios, OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes delivers a powerful punch of humor and action filled with touching moments and heartwarming characters working together to build a strong community. Every person is a hero to look up to, every challenge is a chance to grow stronger and every success or failure is just another stepping stone to becoming the ultimate hero.”

For the Easter eggs, I will provide an image along with a quick sentence describing what it references. The team clearly went above and beyond with refrences, as these are all only in a one minute clip!

We see K.O. striking the same pose Sonic does on the boxart of Sonic Adventure.

K.O. performs Sonic’s classic pose, wagging his finger and smirking.

K.O. can be seen tapping his foot, as Sonic does after leaving any of the Genesis games on without input for a few seconds.

K.O. says a hero could “3D Blast” through the door, a reference to the game Sonic 3D Blast.

A girl can be seen carrying the Sonic Quest comic.

Sonic is introduced with music referencing the Sonic Adventure 2 theme “Live and Learn”, he also performs a spin dash and noises from the Genesis games can be heard. He ends with one of his classic poses.

Tails is introduced with music referencing his character theme “Believe in Myself” from Sonic Adventure.

The title screen appears in the same way and is reminiscent of Sonic 2’s. Also, a Genesis style version of the theme for the 1993 series “Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog” can be heard (thank you to TailsPrower811 for reminding me).

Thank you all for reading! What do you think of this crazy idea for a crossover? Will you be tuning in? I believe this will be worth a watch, as the team is clearly full of Sonic fans considering all the references and the fact that this episode even exists. Also, if you were wondering, yes; Sonic and Tails are being voiced by their voice actors from the games. Anyways, set your reminders for August 4th!
